A Soft Life Memoir of Nature, Grief, and Gentle Return

Our garden hugs the edge of a South African veld, where the Helderberg’s silhouette meets a crumbling farm and a river murmuring ancient secrets. Africa’s wild beauty unfolds here—raw, unpredictable, yet deeply serene. This sanctuary has held our joys and sorrows: lost loved ones, children chasing fireflies, storms tearing through, and sunrises fracturing grief like gold on a mountain.
In this quiet corner, life whispers: Heal. Keep going.

✧ Planting Hope Amid Grief
We built this garden from weary soil, stone by stone, palm by palm. It wasn’t about perfection—it was about healing. Each flower was an act of hope, sown with heartbreak, believing beauty might return.
Some mornings carried grief’s weight; others bloomed with jasmine’s scent, whispering, Life endures. Slowly, it did.

✧ The Genet’s Silent Gift
One winter evening, a genet slipped over the garden wall—spotted, graceful, a catlike enigma. My heart raced, unsure. But it wasn’t here to harm—it was simply alive, drawn to the palms and river’s hush.
Night after night, I watched it, my grief softening. The genet became a symbol—a quiet guest in a garden scarred by loss, proof that healing arrives uninvited, on silent paws.

✧ Africa’s Soft Life Lessons
This is Africa, untamed and alive. Summer hums with cobras and crickets; winter wraps the land in quiet wildness. You don’t conquer this earth—you coexist, planting, listening, opening your heart when life returns.✧ Claiming Life Without Control
This garden taught me: claiming life isn’t taming it. It’s welcoming the wild—a genet at twilight, a memory heavy with grief, or a sunrise
